First, thank you for visiting our Gofundme site! We are excited to enter a new era of our Special Olympics Swim Team, the Murfreesboro Speedboats! Our team is growing and we now have expenses that we have not had in the past, namely for our practice space at MTSU.
We currently pay $10 per lane per hour. We plan to practice October-June/July for the 2016-2017 season. Our goal is to raise all of the money by January 31, 2017.
The Murfreesboro Speedboats is an aquatics program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, devoted to helping each swimmer reach their athletic potential.
But don't just trust me that we do this, read some of our swimmer & parent testimonies!
"We have been a part of the Speedboat Swim Team for quite a few years. This is more than just a swim team! It has helped all the special needs participants create those friendships that we all desire for our children. They strive to swim their best & cheer each other on. The ripple effect of those relationships spill over within the parents as well. When there is an off season my child counts the days until it is time to get back in the water & swim with all the friends that have been made. We never considered that our child would be able to swim much less be on a swim team! Go Speedboats!"
"My son Adam is 33 years old and has Down Syndrome. He has been swimming with the Speedboats for many years. The Speedboats gives him many opportunities to compete in Special Olymics. He has formed many friendhsips as a result of his participation. Most importantly the Speedboats privide much needed exercise for many individuals with special needs leading to imporoved health and quality life. We LOVE the Speedboats!"
