Maastricht goes to Calais
“Maastricht goes to Calais” is a project with the aim to bring concrete help to the refugee community of Calais. It has been founded by four students of European law and European Studies at the University of Maastricht, but is meant to work with direct participation and contribution of every single member of the Maastricht community. The Calais refugee camp, better named as the “Jungle”, due its inhuman living conditions, is the biggest refugee camp located in the North of France, just few hours drive from Maastricht. In fact, any small effort can improve daily living conditions. The purpose of this project is to use the enormous potential and the values upon which our Maastricht community develops, to practically help those 10.000 men, women, children, forced to live in such a degrading tent city without primary necessities, deprived of all liberties. In the first week of November we are going to Calais and in the meanwhile we started a fund-raising activity as well as a collection of clothes, canned food, blankets, sleeping bags and any primary goods in order to help refugees face the upcoming winter.
Thank you for any contribution!
