I'm Andy Zimmerman, member of a tribe of folks called Friends of Jim. We're a group united in our love of sailing, boats, the water, being outdoors, and hanging with our good friend, Jim Brown. In sailing circles, Jim is a legend for his books, his wonderful stories, and love for multihulls. This movie project is all about preserving and sharing one of the greatest sailing stories never told.
In the 1950s and ‘60s, a group of countercultural adventurers changed sailing forever.
They reimagined centuries-old Polynesian sailing craft with fresh designs and modern materials and without meaning to, radically upended the sailing establishment. And they had the wildest time doing it.
So much of what sailing looks like today can be traced to what these mavericks were doing with the multihulls they designed and built in their garages and back yards. Even hydrofoils that scream across the seas at 50+ knots owe a nod to these characters and their accomplishments.
It’s a story full of history, tragedy, comedy, discovery and adventure. It’s a story that will soon be lost if we don’t tell it.
We hope you can help us.
