Those of us who know Yolanda Jenkins know that she is shy and reserved when you first meet her. Once you get past that tough exterior you find that she is smart, loyal, funny and loves everyone around her. To know her is to love her. At this time I am asking that we all open our hearts to her and her family. She has been sick for quite some time now and is now needing our help.
Yolanda has been battling cancer in silence after discovering a lump in her left breast in December. She then went to the doctor after experiencing pain in January. That doctor, a Gynecologist , tried to aspirated what he thought was a cyst. After being unsuccessful he then referred her to an ultrasound specialist. The specialist found a lump and an abnormal area outside of the lump. On February 12th the specialist did a biopsy on the lump and then advised her on February 23rd that she had cancer as well as benign cells in the abnormal area with no explanation.
She then went to Cleveland Clinic for a second opinion on February 24th where they advised her that she had calcium deposits in both breasts as well as more cancerous cells. The following day Yolanda had a mamogram which showed more calcium spots. She then underwent a bilateral mastectomy in March 10. During the surgery, the doctors removed all of her breast tissue, 23 lymph nodes from her left and 3 lymph nodes from the right, of those they found 6 cancerous nodes. After having the surgery she is now having 2 chemo treatments every 2 weeks.
With the chemo come side effects, it has caused her to experience moments where she feels drained, nausea as well as diarrhea.
She has a wonderful support system. Her daughters whom are 8 and 9years old have taken on the role of assisting her in the household. Although they are young, they understand what is going on and have also been attending therapy in order to cope with what is going on. Talking to Yolanda about her kids, and their concept of cancer brings her to tears. Aside from the kids her mother and other family members have been assisting as well.
To help ease the financial burden that comes with the cancer, her Wife, who works third shift has been picking up extra shifts. After getting off she must sometimes takes Yolanda to the hospital where she gets blood transfusions and other treatments that help alleviate the effects of the chemo and the cancer itself. Her Wife, Deanna works so much and worries so much that she often forgets to eat and sleep.
I am writing all of this to ask that you assist me in assisting Yolanda with their finances. Every bit counts. I am certain that we will not only meet the goal, but we surpass it.
