Linda's Light

Linda Bowdler is a young Mum of five wonderful children. Their world was blown apart when Linda was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Linda campaigned to raise awareness around issues affecting cancer sufferers in Ireland and bravely told her story in the hope that changes would be made to reduce the financial impact on families coping with this terrible disease.

Unfortunately, Linda's fight is now coming to an end, and we are fundraising so that her beautiful children can be helped to cope with the loss of their rock. They won't have their Mum with them this Christmas which is heartbreaking.

Linda's light shone brightest when she was making her children happy, and we want to help to keep that light shining during this unimaginable time for her children.

Please help us to give them the Christmas that they deserve and to ensure that they can still maintain the sports and social activities that will be so important to them now.

I (Barry), got to know Linda after hearing her interview, and I was touched by how her every thought centred around the impact that her illness was having on her husband and children and how they would all be affected after her fight was over. These concerns included financial ones, as her income has been vital to the family's finances. The money that we raise will help the family to survive financially and ensure that sacrifices (like the example mentioned in the Newstalk interview of Linda's daughter having to give up gymnastics because of the cost involved) that impact the kids don't have to be made unless absolutely necessary. Linda asked me to launch the appeal, and now that she is too unwell to communicate with me herself, I am working with her husband, Carl to make sure that her wishes are honored. All funds raised will be transferred directly to Carl's bank account.

My hope is that when the time comes, Linda will rest easy knowing that the community of humanity is looking out for her lovely kids.
