Chrissy Wilmot’s Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi I am Monica Fleming, Chrissy’s cousin, and along with her sister-in-law, Nicole (Nikki) Cummins, we’d like to share with everyone the terrible and shocking accident that occurred on Friday March 24th and ask for support, prayers and well wishes for Chrissy as she struggles to heal.
Friday evening after Chrissy got home from work and began to relax and settle in for the evening, she went to use the restroom. At which time a random, stray bullet came through the wall of her apartment, into the bathroom, penetrating the left side of her abdomen. It tore through her stomach, pierced through some of her main arteries and veins in her belly and continued on, ripping a 3 inch hole in both her pancreas and her liver. The bullet eventually stopped, and is lodged in the right side of her body in the subcutaneous muscle and tissue.
Somehow she was able to walk into her living room and call 911. She arrived in the ER and was taken directly to the operating room where she underwent several hours of surgery trying repair the damage.
We have since learned that the round was shot from a black powder musket, with a 44cal musket ball by a drunk neighbor, in the adjacent apartment. The neighbor was detained and interviewed, on site, by the police but NOT taken into custody, for some very frustrating and unknown reason; a mistake that we are trying desperately to remedy, and have attorneys working on as we speak.
We, as her family, are beside ourselves. We don’t want to focus on the insanity of this situation, or the crazy odds of this happening, or the absolute absurdity that the neighbor is not sitting in jail right now. But instead we want to focus on how VERY, VERY lucky Chrissy is to be alive, and how incredibly grateful we are that there wasn’t more damage i.e. an injury to her spinal cord, shock, or infection etc.
Those of you that know and love Chrissy, like we do, know that she is as kind, generous and loving as anyone can be. Which is what makes her so special to all of us!
Some of you may not know but before becoming a nurse, a few years ago, Chrissy was an elementary school teacher. She currently works with autistic and special needs children where she is able to use both her teaching skills and her “nurse brain” to provide passionate and enthusiastic care for the kids.
Chrissy is an exceptional friend, coworker, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin and dog momma, and we are all so fortunate to know and love her. We are asking for donations to help pay for Chrissy’s medical expenses, for which it is extensive, and will be ongoing. As well as financial support to offset her lost wages and the costs for relocating Chrissy to another apartment/house where she, and her 2 dogs, Kado and Bandit, can live without having to replay the trauma from all of this craziness.
Help comes in many forms and via many blessings! If you’re unable to donate we ask that, you please send all of the good vibes, prayers and messages of support for Chrissy. We want to surround her with as much love and positive thoughts as we can and let her know that we are all here for her!
Nikki and I will post updates as we go so that everyone is kept in the loop on how Chrissy is progressing. At this time we would like to keep visitors to minimum and limit it to family and immediate friends, until she gets a few days down the road and starts feeling a bit stronger. Thank you everyone for all that you’re doing to help show support for Chrissy, we are so very grateful for the outpouring of love for her!
