Nutrition Products For Children Of Um-Rakuba
Donation protected
Dear Friends around the world,
My name is Walta Berhane and I recently had the opportunity to travel to the Um-Rakuba Refugee Camp in Sudan. The camp currently hosts approximately 16,000 Refugees of Tigrayan descent. The Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, home to about 6 million people, is experiencing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The Tigray Regional Government and the Ethiopian Federal Government have been at war since November 4th, 2020. As a result, many people from Tigray were forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in the neighboring country Sudan. This is due to the numerous atrocities and injustices that have been committed in Tigray in the last 2 years.
I recently visited Sudan to conduct my independent research on the conditions at the Um-Rakuba Refugee Camp; to determine how I may be of assistance. My attention was solely focused on the little children that reside in the camps. After conducting my research, I decided that I would be pushing a campaign to help provide nutritional foods/milk for children between the ages of 6 months & 3 years old. There are roughly 5500 children among the 16,000 IDPs that live in the Um-Rakuba camp. Out of the 5500 children, 1400 are under the age of three and in desperate need of assistance since they don't get enough nutrition for their development—both mental and physical.
On my first trip in October 2022, I collected $10,456 within a matter of 6 days, from 61 different individuals. With these funds, I purchased Milk products for children from a local importer/supplier in Sudan (3000 Units to be exact) each weighing 200 grams. With the help of the Senior camp leadership, I was able to distribute the Milk products to 750 children (a 30-day supply for each child).
This time, to have a greater impact, I've partnered with the Asmlash-Grant Foundation, a non-profit organization, working on the ground. We want to strategically work together to help the 1400 children who are residing in the Um-Rakuba Refugee Camp and are in great need till they can go home.
We plan to utilize the gathered funds we receive for the following:
Purchase of Wheat Milk for 1400 children(At least One month Supply) ~ $19,500
Pay for Delivery expenses~ $1800
Stockpile for the following months(if possible)
We hope to collect $25,000 for this Initiative so kindly donate whatever is possible. No parent in this world deserves to see their infant child cry because of hunger. Thank you for taking the time to read about our Initiative
Sincerely,
