Our Fridge Burned Us

Donation protected
EDIT 8/14/19: We are in some trouble. The fridge that we had to buy when ours died (see recent Update), plus expenses related to our 19-year-old cat, have taken their toll. IN FOUR DAYS WE WILL BOUNCE BILLS. We've raised the goal to hopefully cover *some* of that. If you can spare anything please help us out!

We are Bart, Kay, and our son Bastian. We've been struggling with money for some time, living paycheck to paycheck, but over the last several months we've had the perfect storm of financial disasters.

- In December our car needed new brake pads and rotors... it was completely undrivable. $480.

- Also in December, we found out that Bart made JUST enough money to be kicked off our insurance, meaning he had to pay extra to get covered. Yay, new unexpected monthly expense!

- In January what seemed like a minor fender bender resulted in one of the car's axles breaking. Again, completely undrivable. $460.

- In February, with no warning or explanation offered, Kay's monthly disability benefit was $270 less than usual, thanks (probably) to the government shutdown.

- Also in February, during the recent snowstorm, Kay was in a scary accident. Luckily no one was hurt, but our car is a wreck. The insurance company doesn't want to total it, and even if they did we'd have to get a replacement car. $1000 deductible, minimum.

Bart has been searching for a full-time position for a long time, and despite several interviews has only been offered part-time positions. Kay is on disability and can't work.

We also haven't recovered from a year ago when our boiler up and died on us, adding an unexpected $11,000 expense, which we're still paying off (and will be for years). We have no savings; we're deeply in debt. We have a number of bills coming due that we're not sure how we're going to pay. And at this point, we just can't keep our heads above water without help.

Any funds we can raise will be used to 1) ensure we have a working car, so Bart can actually get to work, and 2) help pay some of our almost-due bills.
