Help Artie Get On His Feet!

On Tuesday, November 15, Artie had a stroke. The infarction occurred in his brainstem and, while it impacted his small motor skills, balance, coordination, and ability to perform self-care independently, he was incredibly lucky. There has been no paralyzation and minimal cognitive involvement. With the right therapies and support, he should make a full recovery in time. After a week+ at Grant Hospital, he was transferred to the OhioHealth Rehabilitation Center in Victorian Village. He has been there almost two weeks now and is making great progress with over four hours of speech, occupational, and physical therapy each day. It has been pretty amazing seeing how much progress he has made in the past twenty days.

That said, this is just the beginning. Upon discharge from the rehabilitation facility, Artie will be moving in with Leon while he continues his recovery. His treatment team has stressed the importance of this next six months to his recovery: his sole focus needs to be continuing with his various therapies so that he can return to his life of full independence. Unfortunately, none of this is cheap and there is currently no disability or medicaid to rely on for bills and other essentials (it's being worked on). Additionally, Leon will be Artie's sole caregiver which will require him to miss a lot of work. That's where you come in.

We want to keep Artie's apartment for him to eventually return to and assist him and Leon with medical expenses and other things they may need as we transition into this next phase of Artie's recovery. Every dollar raised will go directly to maintaining Artie's home, assisting Leon with bills, and paying for the care and equipment Artie will need as he gets back to his wonderful, surly self.
