Egypt's Final Open Heart Surgery
Donation protected
Our name is Erica and Widmarck. We have two kids Egypt and Widmarck II. Our daughter Egypt was born with a heart defect where the bottom left chamber of her heart did not grow completely and her Tricuspid valve does not open all the way because it was not fully developed. Her diagnosis is Tricuspid Atresia. This causes her oxygen to be low and for her to get tired easily compared to children with a fully developed heart. When her oxygen drops low her mouth, lips, hands and feet turn blue for the lack of oxygen. If she tries to run around like a normal child and play and have fun she gets tired easily. Simple things that we take for granted have become very exhausting for her like simply walking down a hall way or climbing stairs to our apartment, or playing the harmonica with her great grandfather. She can get tired to the point that she will just stop and lay down. She says quite often that she is tired and wants to rest.
Now on August 31, 2016 she will be having her 3rd open heart surgery to put a Fontan shunt in to help her blood flow better to her heart. She had her first open heart surgery when she was only a month and a half old and then the second one at four and a half months old. The first surgery was to put a pulmonary band on her heart to help slow down the heart to prepare it for the glen shunt that she had put in on the second surgery. She has to take aspirin every day for the rest of her life to prevent blood clotting from occurring in her heart.
Right now She is going to have what will hopefully be her last open heart surgery. It will be necessary for one of us to stay home with her during her recovery, though we are unsure of the time frame. Unfortunately, this has come at a time when we are just beginning to get back on our feet from other medical issues. This is why we are reaching out for any sort of assistance that will aid us to ensure that she get the proper care she needs. If anyone would like to assist us it would be greatly appreciated. This will help to give us peace of mind to take care of her and stay afloat during a very emotional time. We are so grateful for any support or assistance that anyone is able to provide us.
