Midwives for Haiti

In the Name of The Most High

Beloveds, I am excited to be headed to Haiti soon iA for a couple of months, volunteering with Midwives for Haiti (1), and need your help!

Due to exploitation, political instability, violence, insecurity, and natural hazards, Haiti remains the poorest country in the Latin America and Caribbean region (with the highest infant mortality rate there 2), and amongst the poorest countries in the world (3). In addition, Haiti’s maternal mortality ratio remains the highest of any country in the Western Hemisphere, at an estimated 521 deaths for every 100,000 live births (4).

It is due to this lack of resources and skilled care that Midwives for Haiti was established in 2006, with focus on it’s 18 months training program for Haitian nurses in Hinche, who now adequately staff the local hospital, and other prenatal and postnatal programs that forever changes their lives (Learn more about the amazing work here: https://midwivesforhaiti.org/about-us/ )

It is with deep honor for this opportunity to bring midwifery education to the medical team, offering support as a provider in the birth center, and specifically helping to develop and establish the Maternity Waiting Home program for important antepartum healthcare.

As any international work or on the ground work, our tasks and financial reach ranges from basic food distribution, employing staff, to life saving access, medicines and supplies, to compassionate care for all.

Besides having skills as a Certified Nurse Practitioner Midwife (and Chinese medicine practitioner, integrative medicine practitioner, herbalist, nutritionist, and massage therapist), I acknowledge that I will also be there to learn a whole lot from the team, local midwives, and staff, from each and every person I care for, and from the whole community at large.

Every experience helps me become a better practitioner now and into my future. I also acknowledge that there is a crisis of people (esp. women) dying in our own medical systems (5, 6, 7), and the critical need that we have in our own backyard. My hope is to forever make a difference in the way I can.

I am grateful to you, my community who supports me. Thank you! The funding raised will also help me (a single women), get to Haiti, cover my expenses there, and my housing to return to. Every amount, prayers, and sharing helps! May God reward you, and may all the good return to you iA!

Feel free to message me with any questions,

Peace!!
