Help a Displaced Gazan Family to Survive and Help Others

I am Abdullah Radwan, a displaced person in the southern Gaza Strip. I live in the Jabalia camp, which is currently destroyed. I am married to Chef Alaa, who works in the Gaza Soup Kitchen. My wife and I work in the southern Gaza soup kitchen. She works as a cook and I work as a cleaner after cooking. Together we distribute food to the displaced. We have three children, a boy and two girls, who need care. My elderly mother also lives with me and needs health care. She suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes.

Our family used to live in Jabalia camp. My wife and I worked hard to care for our family. But in 12/2024 our home was destroyed. The deafening explosions came in the middle of the night. Fear gripped my heart as the walls of my home shook. Every second felt like an eternity. All I could do was pray for the safety of my family. We were forced to flee in search of safety, leaving everything behind: our home, the life we built, our memories.

The bombs didn’t just destroy our home and neighborhood; they left scars on our hearts. I cannot forget the fear I experienced during the bombings. The dread of not knowing whether the next strike would be the last has haunted me since that day. I struggle daily with the weight of that fear: the psychological toll is immense.

Today, I find myself far from home, living in a tent with my family in Jabalia refugee camp in the southern part of Gaza. Our family home, once filled with laughter and warmth, lies in ruins. We were lucky to make it to a safer place. But the trauma followed us. The physical damage to buildings can be repaired, but emotional scars are harder to heal. The constant fear has left its mark on all of us. Every loud noise, every flash of light, brings back the terror of those nights under bombardment. The uncertainty, the loss of safety, the anxiety, the helplessness—it’s something that words can hardly describe.

I am reaching out today to ask for help to secure the needs of my family so that my wife and I can care for our children, continue our work helping others, and rebuild what was lost—not just the walls of our home but the sense of safety and security my family so desperately needs.
