1817 Bimeler Cabin Restoration

The Zoar Community Association proudly announces the acquisition of the iconic 1817 Bimeler Cabin, marking an important milestone in the preservation of Zoar's rich heritage. Purchased from the Gus Ruetenik family, who owned and maintained it for nearly a century, the Bimeler Cabin is believed to be the first structure built in Zoar and served both as the original residence of Joseph Bimeler, Zoar’s leader and the first church and meeting house for the early Separatists. Its acquisition by the Zoar Community Association marks a new chapter in its history, as the Association intends to restore and preserve the structure, for historical interpretation.

With the acquisition secured, the Zoar Community Association is poised to embark on the restoration effort, insuring its structural integrity while honoring its character and historical importance.

The Zoar Community Association extends an invitation to all who share a passion for history and heritage to join in this endeavor. Contributions towards the restoration and subsequent maintenance of the 1817 Bimeler Cabin are deeply appreciated. The overall fundraising goal for the restoration is over $100,000 with $24,000 already in place.
