DAVEN’S STORY
My name is Umeeda Switlo and I’ve created this gofundme campaign for Daven Duncan and his family to help them through this difficult time.
Daven is a bright, active, and caring 18-year-old who lives with his family in Belmopan, Belize.
In August 2019, he began his studies at the University of Belize with the goal of becoming a doctor! On the second day of classes Daven was rushed to the local hospital and was informed the doctors had found a mass. He was transferred to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City to undergo further testing, and was then transferred to Clínica de Mérida in Mexico where all his testing had to be repeated to confirm the diagnosis.
The results came back that Daven has Diffuse Large B-cell lymphoma stage 2 (DLBCL). This is a quick growing and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and urgent treatment is needed for Daven.
Daven’s family is hopeful that with treatment he can recover and continue his studies, but they cannot afford all the treatments on their own. We are asking for your help!
The family has already spent over $9,130 and have managed to fundraise $4,515 with their community in Belize.
Daven has been prescribed:
- 8 rounds of chemotherapy, 1 every three weeks starting October 28th, 2019
- Heart medication during chemotherapy
- Potential radiation
- further treatment as needed
We are also raising funds to help the family with:
- Travel to and from Mexico from Belize (the specialized treatment needed is not available in Belize)
- Food and Accommodation
- Costs of medical treatments already incurred
We have estimated approximately $140,000 to cover these expenses and are hopeful you can help us. Daven’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for any donation big or small.
Thank you for reading Daven’s story, it has been difficult, and we appreciate all the help that you can provide us with the best possible care for Daven’s treatments and recovery, so that he can be considered cancer free.
We will be posting updates to keep you in the loop on Daven’s progress. Please share this within your social networks.
