3 million steps for ATTR Amyloidosis

Donation protected
We at ATTR Amyloidosis Ireland Support Group have set ourselves a challenge! Three million steps in a month, starting March 1st.
We are aiming to raise much needed awareness about ATTR amyloidosis. Hereditary Amyloidosis Thr60Ala mutation is a condition that affects those of Donegal heritage whether it be here in Ireland or worldwide. Currently, very little is known about the disease and people are unaware that it may exist within their families. Awareness and education amongst the medical profession is poor and a major challenge for patients also.
hATTR is an inherited disease that often affects the nerves, heart and kidneys. It is characterised by the deposit of an abnormal protein called amyloid in multiple organs of the body where it should not be. This causes disruption of organ tissue structure and function. In hereditary amyloidosis, amyloid deposits most often occur in tissues of the nervous system, heart, and digestive tract.
We have come up with this idea as a fun activity to carry out during these restricting times but also to raise much needed funds in helping us raise awareness and to support those that are affected by this life limiting illness. There are currently no treatments available in Ireland while elsewhere there are. Any help you can give to this cause will be to greatly appreciated. Thank you.
