3 peaks for Wayne

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Luke Morgan. If some of you don’t know we unfortunately lost my old man in July through his short but tremendous battle to cancer with relentless obstacles he never backed down. He was diagnosed at Easter with hopes it was all treatable, however as time passed the cancer drastically grew. He was admitted on the 11th May due to the un-imaginable pain being caused by the cancer spreading to his spine making it un-bearable to move. Through endless efforts to get in front, from our first surgery resulting in not knowing if he will wake up and being told the worse, to being given hope in the form of a second surgery, which would later result in him becoming paralysed however no longer in tremendous pain, now more optimistic, but was then followed by a broken shoulder however never being defeated he always found a way to show us a Smile till the end.

For those of you who ever got to meet my dad would know he was such an incredible man, he was my role model and a man I aspire to make proud.
To do this I am planning to attempt the 3 peak challenge in less than 24 hours, this will be attempted by myself my brother Connor and
4 lads (George Curtis, Jade Fairhead, Josh Howlet and Max Mulley) we plan to start at the top, climbing Ben Nevis first, we then drive down to the Lake District, finding Scafell pike and begin our second climb, finally we end up in wales to climb our last peak which will be snowdon. The average time climbing is 13 hours allowing us 11 hours of driving to each peak in attempt to do it all in 24 hours. However this seemed too easy, so I have decided that I will be doing the climbs weighted with my old man’s tool box.

I am attempting this challenge in honour of my dad, however any funds raised will be distributed between two accounts. One being the Mulbarton ward at the Norfolk and Norwich who ensured my old man was comfortable and had the ability to fight this horrible disease. The second being the Priscilla bacon lodge hospice, who gave him care and a place to try and relax and enjoy the time we had together as a family.

Update
Well I didn’t think we were going to get such incredible and generous support when I first began planning this attempt to remember my old man. I just wanted to take a second to say thank you to everyone who has donated so far and how much it means to us. I never knew how emotional it would be sending out thank you messages how ever it was incredible to see how many people took the time to read our story and donate. I hope we can keep going and see how far we can go. I wish I could say exactly how the fundraising will be used how ever I can only paint a few ideas from our experience being at both the Mulbarton Ward and the Hospice.

During his stay at the Mulbarton ward he was very fortunate to having his own side room, which definitely went to his head with how much attention he was getting from doctors, nurses and specialists who were all intrigued by his case. My old man seemed to have a way with words with everyone, always making friends with anyone who came too see him including several nurses and doctors who regularly came down from different wards to see how he was doing. The room he was first allocated was amazing it was an updated room which although had a window it was obstructed by a new part of the hospital. To combat this the nurses on the ward had fundraised money to install a virtual skylight which gave the room light and a sense of still being outside. Although this was amazing not all rooms had the possibility to have these installed through expense. Im unsure if this will be how the donations will be used however hopefully this gives a sense of how amazing the staff on the ward were by using their own time and fundraising to provide incredible care to the patients they look after.

As the cancer worsened he was eventually transferred over to the Priscilla bacon lodge hospice which is a charity run hospice. It was first opened on the 26th of October 2023. The hospice is such an incredible place which provides 24/7 one on one care with the ability of using specialist equipment. This was amazing due to the unfortunate cards Dad was dealt leaving him paralysed from the waist down and a broken shoulder, a hoist was necessary to get him out of bed. Although he only managed this a few times he was finally able to get outside in a specialist chair in possibly one of the hottest day we had, he was able to put on some clothes, a hat and enjoy a little bit of sun until it got too hot for him. Im unsure how the Money will be used however this place deserves so much because the level of care they took for Dad was far beyond incredible.

Without the amazing work from both the hospital and hospice with their incredible teams of nurses, doctors, and specialists, my Dad would not been able to fight so hard from the 101 days of diagnosis to the 55 days from when he was admitted, so I’d also like to say a massive thank you to anyone who got too care for my Dad during his battle.
