3 peaks in 24 hours in memory of Mark Bessell
Mark Bessell (49) worked at Ashton Park School and Sixth Form for many years, teaching generations of students from across South Bristol. He was a respected, confident and skilled climber that ran expeditions as far afield as Kenya and Tanzania, which included climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Mark was one member of a party of four enjoying his customary winter break climbing near the top of Ben Nevis when an avalanche struck on the 30th December. It took Mark and one other climber more than 2,000ft down the north face of the UK’s highest mountain Ben Nevis. While the other climber survived, tragically Mark died on the mountain.
Mark was a huge part of Ashton Park School and has been hugely missed. As a mark of respect to him we (Bevan, Lloyd and Steve Collier) have decided to complete the 3 peaks challenge in his memory. This summer we will aim to climb the 3 highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours, with the hopes of raising money for a well deserved cause in Marks memory.
Marks widow Charlie has nominated Mountain Rescue as the charity that any proceeds should go to.
