Create a better future for 30 children in Ghana!
Donation protected
On April 12th (the International Day for Street Children) we launched this crowd funder: aiming to raise money to provide 30 children in Ghana access to primary school and junior high school. For this, we need your help!
Who We Are
Adamfo Ghana is a Dutch charity that is passionate about creating a better future for street connected children and youth in Ghana. We are partnering with six different local NGOs and CBOs in the three biggest cities in Ghana; Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale.
Background
Gbegbeyise (Dansoman) is one of the poorest slums in Accra, the capital of Ghana. Children and families living in this area often have very little access to health care and education because they cannot afford it. Many children work on the street to contribute to the family income. Some of them also sleep on the street, others come back to their homes in the slums at night. The living conditions in this neighborhood and on the streets are dangerous and unhealthy. Children are at risk of harsh working conditions, abuse, (sexual) violence, and very little perspective for the future.
Our partner Urban Poor Child Organisation (UPCO) is a community-based organization that is based in Gbegbeyise and has been working there for over 20 years. UPCO has built up a school for the children from the neighborhood, running from nursery/preschool, up to primary school and Junior High School. The school allows children from the area to access education, asking for very low fees and sometimes also waiving the fees completely, to allow as many as possible to complete at least JHS. There are now over 400 children in the school. Of course, some costs are unavoidable.
Need for Action
We are glad to share some pictures from our community outreach project to identify children who have still not gotten the chance to be in school. About 30 children have been identified so far, who are unable to pay for school (feeding fees, uniforms, and books) due to financial difficulties and being raised in single-parent households. In order to send a child to school for a year, around 800 Ghanaian cedis is needed.
This amounts to approximately 100 euros per child. Therefore, any donation you can make will have an immense impact on the future of a child in Ghana. We are extremely grateful for any donations you can make and want you to know that you are an important part of providing a better future for street children! Providing education for 30 children is great progress.
