Dave had a stroke and is unable to work.
Spende geschützt
My husband Dave works a very physical job and he works 50 or more hours a week every week. Last Thursday while we were working my husband sent me a string of texts that were random letters. I then got an update from my phone his phone was at the hospital. I left work and flew up there where it was clear he had suffered a stroke. The MRI shows he had multiple strokes in multiple areas of his brain all at the same time. He suffered with some short term memory problems as well as his long term memory which is fuzzy. He had double vision in each eye, so with both eyes open he was seeing 4 of everything. Physically he does have strength, but he is has only been up a few times for therapy and requires a gait belt, a person, and a walker. He has been eating pureed foods and able to drink thin liquids (which is amazing!!) One thing he has done for years is the rubic cube, so I took a cube up for him and he has been able to solve it, the first time took over half an hour and he used to do it in a couple minutes flat. He is still in the hospital and hadn't been moved to rehab yet as they are waiting for more tests and their results before he is moved. BUT he will be going to a rehab facility to get back his ability to dress and live independently as well as walk himself and do stairs and work again. They will work on his memory with speech and his occupational and physical therapy. We require both of our incomes to live and we will be down to only my income while he is going through all of the rehab. He does not get any short term disability from work and in essence will have no income coming in whatsoever. Our son is 14 and he told me he applied for a job, doesn't know if he will get it because he's 14 and knows it won't be the income his dad makes working, but said he would try to help. I took care of my mom as a 24/7 caregiver and lost her a few years ago and we were JUST getting on our feet after all the changes that happened while I took care of her. I have looked for a second job but I know I cannot handle two full time jobs while balancing a house and kids and my husband in hospitals and rehab because I need to sleep at some point too. We could really use help to cover Dave's income while he is out of work.
