"Help Our Little Family!" STILL fight the Cancer Beast !!

Hello! I am Sharon, and this is Erin’s mother trying to write this as concise and clear as possible despite my physical disabilities and declining old age *smiles*. We have all lived through a horrific time period over the past two years surrounding the pandemic. I have lost count of the fifty people or more I have known who have passed away during this time period. What was even more difficult was hearing, as a Mom, that your only child has Breast Cancer. While the timing of cancer is always hard, the timing of maternity leave and cancer treatment back-to-back has meant a double loss of income and depletion of savings this past year for my daughter.

For those who know Erin or don’t know her…She is a self-employed, professional Artist, a single Mom of a fun, energetic baby girl 25 months old and growing fast! She is intelligent, self-reliant, a real go-getter involved in the community and social justice and just absolutely loves being a Mom now. She pays her own health insurance for herself & daughter.

There is no partner, and she is living far away from home, family and friends who cannot travel long-term to provide daily practical support throughout the length of treatment. What occurred was she found a lump in her breast after stopping breastfeeding. She then went in for numerous testing and was diagnosed with an aggressive Grade 3 tumor that required immediate treatment. Chemotherapy started in July 2022; Phase 2 chemo started in September for 12 weeks straight; radical mastectomy January 2023; and finally, 25 days of radiation in Spring 2023, DIEP surgery Fall 2023. Phase 2 DIEP surgery Fall 2024.

Erin needs help covering the costs of her health insurance premium ($3200 due mid-October) along with the baby’s healthcare premium AND increased childcare and non-covered medical expenses from now through the end of December 2023. Additional expenses well into the end of 2024.

A series of drawings about back-to-back experiences of pregnancy and childbirth during the pandemic lockdowns, IVF, solo-parenting, and breast cancer treatments. Each drawing is a reflection of times when brain fog becomes the sea we swim in, and to stay afloat we let the intellect wane, allowing the knowledges of the body, emotion, and intuition float to the surface in order to survive. In a way, it’s a time of return.
