Help for Sam

Donation protected
Friends and work colleagues, Sam Bladwell needs our help.

A few short weeks ago Sam went to have a regular check-up with her GP as she neared term with her pregnancy. Little did any of us know what was to follow.

After describing a shortness of breath and some back pain, Sam found herself in an ambulance heading to hospital where a few tests changed her life. Sam, a never-smoker and otherwise healthy 36yo, was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic lung cancer with an EGFR mutation.

In order to start treatment straight away, Sam had to give birth nine weeks prematurely to a beautiful baby girl, Cecilia (Cece), who Sam and her wonderfully supportive husband, Cam, adore.

Sam is now at home and her cancer treatment has started. Cece is still in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) but hopefully she will be home very soon to join brother Max and her parents.

Sam and Cam have deliberately not asked about prognosis because they plan to work hard to shrink the cancer as much as possible and keep it under control as long as possible so Sam can access any future treatments that might lead to a cure.

Sam has only been with Queensland Law Society less than a year and yet it feels like she has always been here. It's hard to say why it feels that way...is it because she cares about everyone she comes into contact with or takes the time to listen when you know she has a thousand other things to do? I'm really not sure. Some people are just selfless, always thinking about others and good to the core.

I can only guess what it feels like for the good people at Grant Thornton, where Sam worked for nearly 13 years. My guess is that you all feel exactly the way we do here at QLS.

That's Sam.

And now it's our turn to help the person who always listens, who's always there, the person who least deserves to have to deal with the situation that Sam now finds herself in.

Fighting cancer is expensive, having a premmy baby is expensive - and not being able to work is expensive. Everything in this situation is expensive.

I'm hoping you'll join me to offset these costs in even the smallest possible way.

All funds donated will go directly to Sam to be used for:
* Medical costs for Cecilia
* Sam’s access to emerging treatments that not be covered by the PBS
* Help with the day-to-day costs of raising a family with Sam not working while Cecilia is so small and the long-term treatment plan uncertain
* Making memories as a family

Thank you so much,

Jason
