Anil and Cayden run to GOSH to buy memory boxes.
At 05:02 on 9/6/20 our son Cayden Ralph Sivarajah was born sleeping weighing 7lb 2oz and it tore our world apart.
Cayden was the 1 out of approximately every 200 births in the UK that are stillbirths, an agonisingly sad statistic.
The walk out of the hospital is supposed to be the best part of labour, a nervous Dad shuffling out with a now surprisingly heavy car seat and mum full of excitement about everything the next few days, weeks and months would bring.
Our walk out was different, we had to leave our beautiful son behind, the car seat was empty and we were left with fear, anxiety and dread about a now very uncertain near future.
The one solace we took came in the form of a memory box, a beautiful box full of things to help us remember Cayden and feel like he is still with us - handprints and impressions, story books explaining love and loss, matching teddy bears so that Cayden could take one with him and we could take the other.
It was this box we carried out with us rather than Cayden and we will be forever grateful to the Hospital and to 4Louis for supplying the box and it’s contents.
The other beneficiary for this fundraiser is the maternity bereavement fund at Southend Hospital which pays for more things to go into the boxes but also to run the butterfly suite - a closed and intimate setting to make bereaved parents as comfortable as possible whilst they go through the trauma of labour of a stillborn precious baby - though we hope we will never see it again we are grateful for the butterfly suite making the delivery as comfortable and private as possible.
Anil will be running 35 miles in July - the distance between our house and Great Ormond Street Hospital - where Cayden will be going for tests to try and understand why this happened.
We absolutely welcome people getting involved by exercising for 35 minutes and donating £3.50 - sharing a selfie and encouraging people to get involved using #35forCayden - kids can get involved too by dancing, bike and scooter rides or any other fun activity and can also donate via parents the £3.50.
**Note** if you’re doing a single £3.50 you can use PayPal to donate as GFM have a £5 min -
Thank you so much for reading and please remember even if you can’t afford to donate a share to social media is just as helpful in spreading the word.
