Support Laura Garrett

Dear Friends,

        We met our precious friend, Laura Garrett, our freshmen year in college at Texas Tech. Through the years, all five of us have supported each other in this journey of life. As you know, she has great faith, a witty sense of humor and is a beautiful soul.  We are asking if you could please join us in praying for her as she faces new challenges and also if you would consider donating toward her surgeries.

         Laura was found by the side of the road in Vietnam and was taken into the orphanage nearby. She lived there until she was adopted at nine months and joined the wonderful Stoy family in America. Her father was a doctor and had the means and the connections to be able to help her because she was born with a severe cleft palate and harelip. She has undergone over 12 surgeries to repair her cleft palate and harelip and has had many years of speech therapy.

    She resides in Arlington, Texas where she has taught Orchestra to 5th and 6th graders  for 24 years! She has put off the inevitable of needing major work on her mouth due to finances and raising two wonderful boys with her husband Wendell. Unfortunately, she cannot put it off any longer and must start the process of rebuilding her mouth immediately. We have outlined the process below. 

Laura will be having her first surgery on June 12th (although a possible delay if the temporary prosthesis isn’t ready). The oral surgeon will remove 6 of her upper teeth and then do a bone graft replacement in the upper arch. This portion of the procedure will be $8560. She will then wait for healing that will take about 6-9 months if everything goes well. This surgery does have some risks, if the graft does not take they will have to redo it until it is successful. 

           Then, for the next phase, the remaining upper teeth will be removed, more grafting will be done on the membrane placement of the upper arch and then the implant placements. This surgery will last for 3 hours. This portion of the procedure will be $21,400.

           The final phase, which will take place 4 months later, will be the torque test of the upper implants, panoramic x-ray and the placement of the final prosthesis. This portion of the procedure will be $6920. The total amount to cover all these phases is $36,880.
