Supporting the Baltazar Family

Our 11 year old nephew Jake will be having open heart surgery in Boston on Nov 16th. He was originally scheduled for surgery in Chicago in June, but John and Jamie were forced to seek opinions out of state when his surgery was unexpectedly canceled. The type of surgery Jake needs is very specific and only a handful of surgeons in the country specialize in it. BCH is one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country and his surgeon specializes in Aortic Valve reconstruction in children. The goal is to try to minimize the amount of surgical interventions he will need until he is big enough for a more permanent fix. They will be headed to Boston on November 13th to be there in time for his pre-op appts the 14th and 15th, and then he will have surgery on the 16th. They were told to expect 4-10 days in the hospital, and to stay in Boston for a few days after. Right now they are anticipating to be there about 2 weeks. With that being said, Jamie and John are going to have a lot of out-of-pocket expenses for this trip. Between extended stay hotel, airfare, and expenses that insurance doesn’t cover it can be very overwhelming financially.
