Help Brent Start Over

Late into the evening of March 13, a longtime Hastings, Nebraska business named Bert's Pharmacy caught fire. Firefighters from four area fire stations battled the blaze well into the morning hours of March 14, 2022.

 

Firefighters had been called by an upstairs resident of the building connected to the engulfed one. He had woken to heavy smoke and ran down the stairs with barely more than the pair of jeans he grabbed on the way out.

 

After the blaze was over, it was easy for all to see that Bert's Pharmacy's downtown location was a total loss. However, the damage within the building next to it wasn't so easily seen.

 

That building contained the upstairs residence of Brent Hultine. Although his swift action saved his own life and many nearby buildings, he lost everything due to the fire. All of his belongings were destroyed by intense heat, smoke and water.

 

Brent did have a small renters insurance policy, but the amount is low enough that starting over will be difficult.
