Lucy Needs Eye Removal Surgery
Donation protected
Hi. I'm Lisa and I need help for my cat, Lucy, please. She has a badly infected eye that needs to be removed or else she has to be put down.
UPDATE: Lucy is having her surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 5th. Please donate any amount you can to help me manage this. Thank you!
I'm on low income, have been paying vet bills for my cat rescue to keep it afloat, and have suddenly been inundated with vet bills for two of my own cats simultaneously.
Lucy has an autoimmune disease that causes inflamed gums, among other symptoms. It was managed for several years with medication, but her gums and teeth became infected. As she had trouble eating, her weight dropped and she had to be hospitalized on IV for a few days to stabilize her. She was eating more and put on a pound or two in time for her surgery to remove most of her teeth. Her brother, Mikey, with the same hereditary autoimmune disease had his teeth out several years ago and is doing great now.
At the same time, my other cat, Salem was having trouble eating and went on antibiotics to see if he got better in case it was an upper respiratory infection. He got worse and went back to the vet for an examination under light sedation. He had a tumour engulfing his throat. He had to be put down. Lucy went in for her oral surgery the next day.
Lucy was recovering well and starting to eat more comfortably when her eye started producing a thick discharge. Back to the vet. She was already on anti-inflammatory and antibiotics and pain medication post-surgery so I just had to give her eye drops. The discharge lessened, but her eye was hazy. Then the thick, sticky discharge came back with blood. The vet said her eye has to be removed. Otherwise, she needs to be put down.
My vet bill is just under $1800 now. I have to pay off about half before I can get the surgery done.
UPDATE: I paid $1000 on my bill last Friday and have the appointment set for tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 5th.
My vet is very helpful with me because I'm a long time client, on low income, and run a cat rescue, but he has bills to pay, too.
If you could please help me save Lucy so she can enjoy more of her life as a one-eyed, toothless little sweetheart, she and I will be very grateful. Believe me, I will be paying it forward by putting my money, time, and energy into rescuing cats and kittens.
Thank you.
