Raylou’s Surgery
Donation protected
Raylou is a domestic cat that was abandoned outside and recently re-homed to us. Shortly after her entrance to our home she developed an eye infection that prompted a visit to the vet. She received both an antibiotic injection and eye drops. After no improvement, minimal appetite, and a quick appearing facial abscess it prompted a visit to the animal hospital where it was discovered through sedated x-rays she had two infected tooth root abscesses. That same day she had surgery to remove these two upper teeth and to drain the facial abscess. Post surgery has committed her to now wet food until her stitches heal, but her favorite thing to eat is our left over thanksgiving turkey with a few strands of shredded cheddar cheese. Things were going well for a couple days until her upper eye started to swell and bleed just like before. Again, we returned to the emergency room where she received alternate pain medications and broader antibiotics that would hopefully penetrate any other unseen abscesses. The leading thought is two issues; poor dental care in the past and a potential fight when she was abandoned outside.
She is home again with seemingly well controlled pain snuggled into her favorite blanket struggling mainly with getting comfortable in her new temporary Elizabethan collar.
Through multiple emergency vet visits and medications the care process has added up quickly. We don’t want to even think about giving up on the sweetest, snuggliest cat in the world but would gratefully accept any help in our job of taking care of Raylou.
