Megan Wessels; Tragic Accident & Loss of Loved Dog

Donativo protegido
Megan Wessels; raised in Shelby Township, Michigan and currently residing in Chardon, Ohio.
On November 22nd, 2023, Megan was in a tragic vehicle accident. Barely one hour from home; a trailer hauled by a commercial vehicle, headed in the opposite direction on I-76, lost an improperly secured tire.
The tire launched across the median, bounced, and then smashed into Megan’s Truck: shattering through her windshield, and hitting Megan in its course, then literally shearing off the roof of her vehicle and obliterating the side & rear windows of her truck.

Devastatingly, Megan in the driver’s seat received a severe scalp laceration requiring 80+ sutures during surgery later that evening.

Thank goodness to the local fire chief and an off-duty nurse who stopped to render first aid before the paramedics arrived. They were true angels because Megan was not travelling alone… Megan also had precious cargo;
Blanch a yellow Labrador Retriever (who’s crate broke upon impact and fled the scene) and Echo, a pup of her own that she was training for service dog work.
As Megan fought for consciousness, and her grip on echo’s leash, the roadside angels finally convinced Megan that they would bring Echo to the hospital and start searching for Blanch.
Despite courageous efforts of first responders and searchers, sadly an Ohio State Trooper was first on the scene Friday morning to find Blanch, the Yellow Labrador, who had returned to the highway and been fatally struck.

I am asking for donations to help Megan:
• Cover any fees/costs to replace her totaled truck.
• Compensate any extended time off from work and training service/therapy dogs so that she can heal physically and emotionally.
• For any medical co-pays / bills that aren't covered under insurance.
• To buy crates designed to withstand vehicle accidents, so that she can feel safe again traveling with her dogs.
• To help continue her passion: helping others through top quality service, therapy, or companion retrievers with ‘Mission Ready Retrievers, LLC’.

Megan was formerly a Sergeant in the Army National Guard, served 10 years including 1 tour in Iraq. Megan is currently a Public Highschool Math teacher in Ohio Chardon Schools and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed (Cpdt KA), focusing on training service dogs. She has helped foster 30+ dogs, and multiple litters of puppies, for local rescues.
