Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,
We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts and a plea for help for our beloved grandson, Hunter Rasmussen.
Hunter returned home in late August 2023, after serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Phoenix, Arizona.
Over the last three months, Hunter has been working 12 to 14 hours a day trying to earn enough money so that he could go to school to become a licensed electrician. When he wasn't working, he was doing what he loves the most - hunting and fishing.
On November 22, 2023, the day before Thanksgiving, while out duck hunting, Hunter was accidentally shot in the back of his lower left leg. He was life-flighted to Utah Valley Regional Hospital. After 5 days and three major surgeries, his doctors determined the leg was not receiving enough blood flow and would need to be amputated below the knee. Hunter will require additional surgeries to prepare his leg for a prosthesis. This time has been physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging for him.
Hunter has always been an example of strength, resilience, and positivity to his friends, family, and all who know him. His spirit and faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ is unwavering, and he is determined to embrace this new chapter of his life.
Hunter's High School Football coach shared the following about Hunter's character.
"My first year as a high school head football coach was right in the middle of the Covid pandemic. I had a new team, a new staff, and uncertainty about if the boys would even get to play or not. I needed a team captain who could lead with action, words, examples, and maturity. My captain was Hunter Rasmussen. It was an easy decision. He is everything a coach wants in a captain, a senior, a leader, and as it turns out a friend. I love that boy. He is a fighter, but he's kind and compassionate. He's a competitor, but he's honest and respectful. He's resilient and humble and I know that he will handle this new challenge in his life in a way that will inspire others and that he won't miss a beat in his efforts to become a great man, husband, father, and leader in the community. I'm 100% positive of that. I love you, Captain Hunter." Coach Dustin Smith
Hunter has the mental and emotional strength to face this challenge in his life. With the need for rehabilitation and additional surgeries, including the possibility of reamputation above the knee your financial assistance would go a long way to help him not focus on the financial burden this is placing on his family.
Considering this, we have set up this GoFundMe campaign, "Hunter's Road to Recovery." (see the 2nd update before making a contribution) to support him on his journey towards healing and regaining his independence. The funds raised will go directly towards the ever-increasing medical expenses, necessary equipment, and rehabilitation services that will enable Hunter to adapt to his new reality.
Your support would mean the world to Hunter and all of us who love him so deeply. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on his recovery and help him face the challenges ahead.
We know that times are hard for everyone, and your contribution is deeply and genuinely appreciated. Please, let us come together in love, encouragement, and resources to help Hunter.
Thank you for your love, prayers, kindness, and support.
