Catoro's Rescue Rally: Urgent Aid for Cats in Need
Donation protected
As Catoro cat cafe continues to be a haven for cats in need, we are faced with new challenges, and your support is more crucial than ever.
Our commitment to providing a loving home for cats in challenging circumstances goes beyond our immediate community. Recently, we welcomed two special souls, Lucky and Rusty, into our cat family. Their heartbreaking tale speaks to the importance of our mission and the critical role your support plays.
Lucky and Rusty found themselves in a dire situation, living in their deceased owner's home with only minimal care from a well-meaning relative. The void left by their owner's passing was filled with uncertainty, and it was our responsibility to step in and offer them the care and compassion they so desperately needed.
This situation is not unique, and we often find ourselves taking in local surrenders when other rescues are full and overcrowded.
When Lucky and Rusty first arrived at Catoro, they were not in great condition. Lucky is 15 years old and his pal Rusty is 8. It can be very difficult for senior cats to adjust to new environments, and these two were no exception. They were reserved and shy. They didn't feel safe or comfortable in this new environment, and it took them several weeks to decompress and settle in.
Unlike many rescues, we don't receive grants or external funding for this vital work. Instead, it is sustained through visits to the Cat Forest, drink sales, and product purchases—support provided by individuals like you who believe in our mission.
In addition to Lucky and Rusty, we are currently focused on raising funds for some of our other feline friends.
Joey is a 10-year-old purebred Persian cat. He was rehomed by his original owner and then surrendered to Catoro by his second owner after about a year. Due to the neglect of necessary dental care, Joey arrived in very poor condition. Despite the hardship he has faced, Joey’s loving spirit still shines through. This sweet and gentle senior cat, now in our care at Catoro, required nine dental extractions.
Joey also has a previously-broken hip with the beginning stages of arthritis, which limits his mobility. With your support, we can rewrite Joey's narrative, providing him with the comprehensive care that has been long overdue. Your donation will not only address his immediate needs but will also pave the way for a future where Joey experiences the love, care, and joy that every cat deserves.
Luna is a 12-year-old dense white snowball and the most affectionate, loving senior kitty you’ve ever met. She was sadly surrendered to us because her owner could not secure pet-friendly housing in Vancouver. Luna has quite an extensive medical record and she currently requires prescription food and daily medication to prevent very painful swelling and inflammation in the colon. When left untreated, colon issues require major medical intervention and Luna is already traumatized from so much time spent at the vet.
Betsy is a 13-year-old dilute calico. She is a quiet and gentle senior cat who is sweet and affectionate. Betsy, along with 10-year-old calico Molly, was surrendered after her owners broke up. Neither owner could afford the medical or daily care for two senior cats, so they surrendered them to our rescue partner for help. Betsy is currently enduring the pain of untreated dental issues, yet her sweet spirit perseveres. Your support will not only provide her with the essential dental surgery she urgently needs but will also give this lovely old lady the opportunity to live out her golden years in comfort, surrounded by the love and care she deeply deserves.
And finally, you may have heard of the wonderful Tintin - a young cat who defied all odds. Tintin has spent the last 3 months battling FIP, a disease that was regarded as a death sentence as recently as 2019. Tintin has made incredible progress in his treatment, but it has cost us over $20,000 in medication and veterinary bills. As Tintin enters a period of remission, we must still closely observe and monitor his health until early next year. We love Tintin and we are so very fortunate to have been able to support his medical bills, but we are asking for your help to save more cats in need.
This is how your support will make a tangible difference:
Emergency Medical Care
Your donation directly contributes to providing emergency medical care for rescue cats in critical need, like Betsy and Joey. It covers essential procedures, surgeries, and treatments that address immediate health concerns, ensuring these cats can recover and thrive in a safe environment.
Dental Health Interventions
Dental issues, such as those faced by Joey, often require specialized care. Your contribution supports comprehensive dental interventions, including surgeries, extractions, and ongoing treatments. This not only alleviates pain and discomfort for the affected cats but also improves their overall quality of life.
Local Surrender Support
Many cats, like Lucky and Rusty, find themselves in challenging situations due to unforeseen circumstances. Your donation helps us continue accepting local surrenders when other rescues are full, providing a lifeline to cats in need. These funds cover their initial veterinary care, vaccinations, and help create a comfortable transition to their new life at the cat cafe.
Nutritional Support
Proper nutrition is vital for the well-being of rescue cats. Your donation contributes to ensuring that every cat in our care receives high-quality, nutritious meals tailored to their specific needs. This not only supports their physical health but also aids in their recovery and overall happiness.
Facility Maintenance and Renovations
Your donation plays a crucial role in the ongoing maintenance and renovations of our facilities. Over time, wear and tear naturally occur, and our spaces need enhancements to ensure the safety and well-being of our rescue cats. Your support helps maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment, contributing to the overall health and happiness of the cats currently in our care. Renovations may include improvements to quarantine areas, rest & play spaces, and other essential facilities, creating an even more welcoming atmosphere for our feline friends.
By supporting Catoro, you are not just sustaining a local business; you are actively contributing to the rescue and rehabilitation of cats in need. Your generosity provides hope and healing to cats like Betsy, Joey, Lucky, and Rusty, enabling them to experience love, comfort, and a brighter future.
Thank you for considering our plea and for being an essential part of our compassionate community. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of these remarkable feline friends.
