Help Support Our High School Students: Mako Fund

My name is Samantha Graves and I am the Director of Child Development at Mako Children's Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports long term education and skill-building opportunities for vulnerable children in rural Ghana. I have known and worked with these students since I was 15 years old, and have been working with this organization for the past 5 years. I have spent over 3 years on the ground in Ghana, living with our students and staff in the boarding house to provide on-site support for the local directors and students in our care.

I am seeking support to fund 8 students in our care to receive a secondary school education.

Mako Children's Fund runs out of Hohoe, Ghana, and serves over 40 at-risk youth from early elementary school until High School and beyond. We are located in the Volta Region, which has higher rates of poverty than any other region, with a large population of impoverished children lacking proper housing, quality education, and clean drinking water. At Mako, we provide safe housing, academic resources, and individualized love and care for each of our children. It is critical to our mission for us to support our students through High School. Receiving Secondary Education is rare in rural Ghana, with less than 13% of students attending High School. We recognize how pivotal Secondary Education is in in helping students build the skills and confidence to create long-term career opportunities.
