Mel's breast cancer surgery and Recovery

My name is Kel and I'm raising money to help my friend Mel pay for a double mastectomy and reconstruction on the 14th Dec 2023 and the 8 weeks recovery.

Radiation may come at a later date. By having a double mastectomy, Mel will hopefully avoid chemotherapy.

As many of you know, it hasn't been the best year, but Mel has stayed positive throughout it all.

The New Year brought a break-up after 15 years. Shortly after that, Mel discovered she had an ulcer which saw her lose 25kg. She was then put in a medical state of labor for 8 months before paying privately for an emergency hysterectomy in August. Waiting on the public list wasn’t an option as the suffering was considerable.

Just as Mel was finally feeling she had recovered from her hysterectomy, she had a sudden sharp pain in her right breast. It turned out to be a cyst. But further follow-up tests showed that it was worse than originally thought. Mel was diagnosed with high grade stage 1 breast cancer on the 16/11/23.

Mel has always been a fighter. She decided to start her own business for 15 years ago after she injured her hands at work and was told she was unemployable. During this time, Mel has refused to charge any customer who needed alterations who was experiencing cancer, dialysis or heart conditions. Mel also refuses to charge our emergency services for any alterations they need to their uniforms.

We all know and love Mel. She is always the first person who steps up to help out when someone is in need. Mel often works late into the night to make sure her valued customers get their work finished when they need it.

Now it’s our turn to help her.

Mel has private health insurance but the out of pocket costs are still considerable, not to mention lost income as she recovers from this massive surgery.
