Help Mary Ann fight her battle with cancer

I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would ever have to create a go fund me. Especially for someone who is the most selfless person, someone who would literally do anything for anyone. She would give the clothes off her back to a stranger, be there for her friends whenever they need a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand. I may be bias but she is the best mom anyone could ever ask for.

Back in August Mary Ann was diagnosed with tongue cancer. When she was diagnosed she asked what the worst case scenario would be. The doctor told her that worst case would be, she would have to have surgery as well as radiation. My mom is living her worst case scenario. Since then she has been eager to receive her surgery so she can be on the road to recovery.

She was admitted to Toronto General on November 22nd and went under an extensive 12-hour surgery to remove half of her tongue as well as have it reconstructed. The surgeon is very happy with her surgery and is positive he got all of the cancer. This is going to be a long road ahead for her, with learning how to talk and swallow again.

During the surgery he could not remove all of her lymph nodes. The surgeon wants her to come back everyday for 6 weeks for radiation to make sure there is no chance of the cancer coming back. Her radiation starts on December 13th, everyday for 6 weeks she will have to travel to receive her radiation. This means she will have to drive from our home town Lindsay Ontario to Toronto. This won’t be easy since it will be right in the middle of winter.

Mom has had to take a leave of absence from work for 6 months and also a leave of absence from taking care of my brother Travis. Travis has cerebral palsy, he lives at home with my mom and dad. My dad is his main caregiver so the only income my parents have is my moms job. This has taken a toll on my parents which doesn’t help the healing process. My mom is worried with lots, between getting to her appointments, making sure my brother is taken care of and making sure she is getting enough rest so she can get better to come home.

I would like to raise money to be able to help with the travels in which they will have to make to get her to her radiation appointments. As well as have her mind at ease during this holiday season. Thank you for any support you can offer my family at this time. Much love xoxo
