Erik Pollock - UVA Division of Hematology-Oncology

Eight years ago, Erik was diagnosed with a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma - Mantle Cell Lymphoma. In 2017, he underwent a bone marrow transplant at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Since then, Erik continued to battle the ins and outs of remission. He was under the care of Dr. Eduardo Sotomayor at George Washington University Hospital for several years. During the peak of COVID in 2020, he became deathly ill and was transferred to UVA Hospital where he received out-patient treatment until his death on November 26, 2023.
Erik got to celebrate his 67th birthday on November 24, 2023, and was surrounded by his family during his passing. To say that Erik was courageous, brave, strong, and determined is an understatement. He fought beyond words and never gave up with the hope that the right medicine would come to save him. He did different trial medications, but unfortunately, his low blood counts prevented him from continuing any trial medicines.
The Mantle Cell Lymphoma world is very small and it is formed by amazing and resilient patients willing to fight this disease and a team of doctors and researchers who dedicate their careers and work persistently to find the right cure.
Thus, in honor of Erik’s passing and in lieu of flowers, we would like to create this GoFundMe in order to continue with the research and development to find a cure for this horrible disease. All funds collected will be donated to the University of Virginia - Division of Hematology/Oncology.
We cannot thank you enough for your support, prayers, and generosity during this difficult time.
With love,
