234km Two Ultra Marathons Over January
Me (Zac) and my brother (Carter) are walking the equivalent of two ultra marathons in January for Cardiff and the Vale NHS Trust.
We have decided to do this because Cardiac Health is really important to us....
Zac's Story: At the age of 10 I started to have what people thought were seizures. I would collapse and then have what looked like a Grand Mal seizure. I had to give up Rugby a sport that I loved. It has taken until now the age of 19 to find out I have a tachycardic syndrome which makes my heart race to the point of collapse. I will have this for the rest of my life and eventually be put on medication. I am doing this to prove that even if you have a heart problem you can do anything you put your mind too.
Carter's Story: A couple of years ago I was very sick. Everything hurt, I could not stay awake and was told by multiple people I had a virus. I did have a virus but one that could have potentially killed me. My body was fighting so hard. I was rushed to hospital where my mum was so scared. She was told all my bloods were abnormal and that they didn't know what was wrong. We were told eventually I had Kawasaki Disease and would need to not exert myself. I had to have scans of my heart and had to tell my school they needed a Defibrillator on site. It was the Scariest thing I have ever had to go through.
Our Aunt was born with Golden Har Syndrome and had her first surgery at a couple of days old in London. We have sadly lost her many years ago but we are doing this in her memory of the journey she took that first time to have open heart surgery.
The funds will be going to the hospital who have helped save me and my brother and that is such a huge part of our lives.
