Melanye Rodriguez Serna~Study Abroad in London!

Hello! My name is Melanye, I’m a senior at McLane High School and the Center for Advanced Research and Technology. I’ve spent years in school studying business, I went on to pursue psychology, and I am currently taking a class in law & policy. My dream, though, is to expand my knowledge in literature. I've been accepted for a summer abroad in London to study creative writing!

This trip would be a momentous occasion for myself and my family. I'd be the first person to travel for my education. I grew up with immigrant parents who've risked it all to give me an opportunity like this. My parents haven't seen the world in the time they've devoted raising me. They feel proud knowing I have the possibility of traveling to another country to expand my education. It's a dream come true for all of us, especially me, who's worked hard for a chance like this. I've never been offered the same privileges as those around me, but I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this opportunity. I've done amazing academically, and I've accomplished so much in my 17 years of age.

Now, I want to set forward and grow as a person, in traveling to London and learning more about my passion, I'd be able to achieve that. However, as a senior in high school, I'm not able to apply for financial aid and I don't have enough money to cover the costs of the trip. I'm doing all I can to work for the money, and I've decided this opportunity is simply far too great to miss because of my financial situation.
