The New Clarence - Hull's First Community-Owned Pub
Donation protected
The New Clarence pub in the heart of Hull city centre closed its doors on Friday 30th June 2023 - our community group has successfully raised the funds to buy it and we became the owners in February 2025.
Buying the pub was just the beginning though - we need to carry out a complete renovation on the building, making it accessible to all and as energy efficient as possible. The upper floors are derelict and we have developed a business plan to bring them back into use.
We are a community group that has been set up to run it on a not-for-profit basis - owned by the community and run for the benefit of the community.
This site is open for anyone to make a donation to help the campaign to renovate The New Clarence. Since becoming the building's owners, we have also re-opened the share sale and shares are available to purchase via CrowdFunder here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/hull-community-pub
We have been awarded a grant of £300,000 from the Community Ownership Fund but we still need as much extra funding as we can get to ensure the project is a success in the long-term.
