Paul Barone - Medical and Family Fund

This GoFundMe is to help Paul Barone and his family through the next phase of their life journey following Paul’s diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in September 2022. ALS is a progressive and incurable neurodegenerative disease where the neurons to the voluntary muscles degrade.

We, James Leung and Stacy Springs, are friends and co-workers of Paul Barone. We first got to know Paul in 2010 when he joined our team at the MIT Center for Biomedical Innovation, where we focus on bringing innovation to the manufacturing of biologic medicines. Paul is a valued member of our team. In addition to his competence, skill, and knowledge, he has helped create a warm and productive collaborative environment that advances our work to ensure that safe and effective biologic medicines are available to the patients who need them. Unfortunately, there are no highly effective treatments for ALS available yet.

Paul and his wife Melanie have two beautiful boys, Cameron and Landon. Paul is currently enrolled in a clinical trial for a new ALS medicine, and while we remain hopeful, we know that dealing with ALS has required significant resources and effort from the entire family and may continue to do so.

We are reaching out for your help: any contribution or donation amount will be very much appreciated.

This fund will be transferred directly to Paul's family for their use, including:

• supplementing uncovered payments for medical treatments;

• accessing suitable care, technologies, and equipment to retain Paul’s mobility & ability to continue working;

• supporting and sustaining the immediate and future livelihood of Paul’s family.
