Scarlett and The Mikkelson Family

We are reaching out to you today with a heavy heart to share the story of our beloved Scarlett, a brave 17-year-old girl who is currently facing an incredibly challenging health battle. Scarlett has recently been diagnosed with multiple serious medical conditions, and we are seeking your support to help her get the care she urgently needs.

Scarlett’s Diagnoses:

- Oral Mucositis (ulcerative)

Scarlett suffers from painful ulcers in her mouth, making it difficult for her to eat and speak. Therefore requiring a feeding tube for feeds as well as taking her medications.

- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE):

This chronic autoimmune disease has caused widespread inflammation and damage to her joints, skin, and organs.

- Acute Pain of Mouth:

Constant and severe pain due to ulcers and inflammation.

- Hypophosphatasia:

A rare disorder affecting bone mineralization, causing weakness and pain.

- Moderate Protein-Calorie Malnutrition:

Scarlett is struggling with malnutrition due to her inability to eat properly.

- Refeeding Syndrome:

A serious condition that can occur when reintroducing nutrition to someone who has been malnourished.

- Hypergonadotropic Hypogonadism Syndrome:

This has led to hormonal imbalances and complications.

- Female Ulcer Disease:

Painful and recurrent ulcers adding to her overall distress.

-Multiple Joint Pain:

Chronic pain affecting her daily activities and mobility.

- Primary Amenorrhea:

Absence of menstrual periods, requiring further medical investigation and treatment.

Scarlett’s Story:

Scarlett’s journey has been incredibly tough. She has a history of chronic arthralgias and lichen planus. Recently, she has been experiencing severe body aches, rashes, mucositis, dabilitating back and abdominal pain. Despite multiple treatments, her condition remains precarious. She is currently under the care of multiple specialists, including rheumatologists and ENT doctors, endrocrinology, gynecology and has been hospitalized numerous times.

Scarlett is receiving comprehensive care, including:

Medications:

She is on a regimen of strong medications like Methylprednisolone, Prednisolone, Hydroxychloroquine, Valgancyclovir, flomotadine and others to manage her symptoms.

Nutritional Support:

Due to her severe malnutrition, Scarlett is now receiving NG feeds to ensure she gets the necessary nutrients.

Physical Therapy:

To aid in her mobility and manage joint pain.
