In Memory of Barb Armijo

On the evening of November 28th, 2023, our beloved mother, sister, friend, and grandmother gained her angel wings and went to rest with the Lord. Barbara was loved and admired by many. Her pride and joy were her two sons and her grandchildren.

Barb was a friend to many and never hesitated to help someone in need no matter the situation she was in. She was a journalist at the Albuquerque Journal, a teacher, and most recently worked for the NM Public Education Department. She was a strong advocate for students and education.

On October 14th, Barb was admitted to the ICU at UNM Hospital after suffering a stroke. After 6 weeks in and out of ICU, doctors determined the underlying cause was undetected bladder cancer that had reached an advanced stage. Doctors did all they could to help treat her, but unfortunately her body had grown tired of fighting and any extra measures would have been too risky to her quality of life going forward. She passed peacefully with her family and close friends by her side.

Unfortunately, Barb’s premature and sudden passing was not something anyone could ever be prepared for, and the family now has the task of planning her services, as well as managing her affairs.
