Help my 91-year-old grandma stay in her home of 10 years
My grandmother, Frances Esenbock, is 91 years old and has lived in her apartment at 1911 Saddlebrook drive Murfreesboro Tn for 10 years. She loves her home and her neighbors, and she has many memories there. She survived many hardships in her life, including losing her husband and my mother,at which point I had to help take care of her. She is a kind and generous person, who always helps others in need.
Problem
However, she is now facing a new challenge that threatens to take away her home and her dignity. Her landlord has decided to increase the rent by 65%, which is way beyond her fixed income. I am trying to find her a new home, but nothing is available during the holiday. I’m trying to find a government program to help, but everything that isn’t full has a 2 year waiting list.
The apartment owners have been adamant and have given her a notice to vacate the premises by the 29th of December. Can you imagine kicking a 91 year old woman out of her place on Christmas? She has nowhere else to go, even if she did, and she cannot afford to move or pay the rental prices around here. She isn’t in good health and this move could be life threatening. I’m honestly at a loss. I would like to be clear, she has broken no rules and is not being evicted for a reason other than a STEEP increase in rent. They have chosen not to renew her lease, which is a loophole to get around the fact they can’t legally increase her rent this amount.
Solution
This is why I am asking for your help. I am starting this gofundme campaign to raise enough money to cover the rent increase for at least a year, and to help her find a more affordable and stable housing situation. She needs $18,000ish to find a new property around here (avg rentals here are $1450.00 a month), and any amount you can donate will make a difference.
Impact
Please help me save my grandmother from eviction and homelessness. She deserves to live out her golden years in peace and comfort. Your donation will not only help her keep her home, but also give her hope and happiness. You will also help us cope with this stressful situation and find a better solution for her future.
I will be as transparent as possible with this, it is all for her. I will post updates as they become available to keep everyone apprised of what's going on. I only want to find her a place to be comfortable.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. God bless you.
