On Monday, November 27th, Cheryl arrived at Atrium Health Pineville, the place she has worked at as a Nurse Anesthetist for the last 17 years. Unfortunately, this time she arrived as a patient herself.

Earlier that day, Cheryl had been working, caring for others as she does so well. Upon returning home, she collapsed unexpectedly and her husband, Greg quickly called 911. She arrived in the emergency department surrounded by staff who knew her and were determined to save her life. The teams in the ED and the cath lab were able to get her on ECMO (full life support) and stabilize her enough for transfer to Atrium Main in Charlotte. At this time, it is believed that one of her main coronary arteries had dissected as a result of radiation she received over 10 years ago for lymphoma. This caused her heart to stop.

For all who know her, we know she's never met a stranger. Her smile lights up the room and she holds space for all who ever need her. She is an absolutely amazing wife, mother to 3 young children, a daughter, friend, and healer.

She has also been very in tune with her health, prioritizing a healthy lifestyle of fitness and nutrition, always staying on top of regular check-ups.

To say this is all shocking and unfair is an understatement.

Cheryl is currently on ECMO at Atrium Main which means she is sedated and on a ventilator. The artery has been repaired and she is being cared for by a capable and determined healthcare team, while surrounded by her husband and closest family.
