Help Drizzy Recover From Burglary and Arson
Donation protected
In the blink of an eye, life changed significantly for our friend. Just days after thanksgiving, our friend DeAndre embarked on a cruise to accompany his 81 year old grandmother on a much needed vacation. Two days into his trip, his entire world flipped upside down. On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, Dre received a google nest alert showing the fire department at his doorstep. The same home we shared friendsgiving dinner just two weeks prior was engulfed in flames. The same home he celebrated a housewarming a little over one year ago is now inhabitable. To make matters worse, the fire was intentionally set after his home was burglarized. All of his personal valuables were stolen and priceless items with sentimental value have been destroyed. While no one was physically harmed, unfortunately Dre did not have appropriate insurance coverage making this a total loss for him. Dre is left with nothing but the clothes on his back and those he packed for vacation.
To make this gut wrenching tragedy even worse, it was discovered that the person who is responsible for the burglary and arson is a relative: a wayward youth mentored by Dre. Those closest to Dre would even say he was like a brother to him. It’s a harrowing feeling to know that everything you own has been destroyed, especially while you are away at sea on vacation with no way to return early. But it is especially agonizing to know that you've lost everything at the hands of the same person you just shared thanksgiving dinner with a few days prior.
Last night, a few friends and I searched through the rubble that used to be our friends' home looking for anything sentimental that could be salvaged. We hoped to find something for him to come back to but we were not so lucky as almost everything was destroyed. SMH.
Your love, care and generous donations are desperately needed. Dre will need all the basic items we may take for granted as we move into the frigid winter temperatures. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in helping Dre get back on his feet. Funds will be used for the following:
securing temporary housing, ensuring he has a safe and comfortable place to stay while rebuilding.
clothing, toiletries and personal items.
towards assisting with the long-term process of rebuilding including finding a new permanent home and replacing items as there will be NO insurance payout.
I know this is a tough time of year to ask for donations, but please donate anything you are able. I know Dre will appreciate anything you can do to support, whether it is a donation, a repost or meaningful words of encouragement.
