Help Kurt's Recovery

After leaving home on a Sunday morning, November 19th, Kurt Henly was traveling northbound when a distracted driver going southbound swerved to avoid another car and hit Kurt head on. The collision placed him in life-threatening condition.

He is currently on day 18 in the Trauma ICU at Hershey Hospital. His injuries are extensive; severe fractures to his femurs, patellas, pelvis, forearms, and collar bones. Operating teams are also working to repair multiple internal injuries. While the injuries are devastating, there are no words for the gratitude we have that Kurt is still with us.

Known for his kindness, reliability, and compassion, Kurt is a 3rd year podiatry resident at St. Luke’s University Health Network. Not only does Kurt have a bright mind, he is also humble and witty. Incredibly thoughtful, Kurt has the strength and determination required for a recovery of this magnitude.

After 40+ hours of surgery, his vitals are stable and doctors are pleased with the progress. In some encouraging news, scans show no signs of damage to his spine. Neurologists say his minor head injuries likely will not lead to any long term significant dysfunction. Two weeks following the accident, Kurt’s medical team has transitioned him off of the ventilator. He is starting to show more signs of awareness.

Kurt's parents Jadene and Dale Henly, his brother Matt and sister-in-law Maria, have been camped out in the ICU around the clock, all deeply grateful for friends & family near and far showing their support. Many have graciously asked how you can be helpful during this time, and in starting this fundraiser we hope to ease the extensive medical bills as Kurt faces a long road to recovery.
