Help Ollie Walk Again
Donation protected
Ollie is our 3 year-old spunky, adventurous and cuddle-loving dachshund. He loves to play fetch, watch and chase squirrels from under his favorite tree, and live life to the fullest (with lots of zoomies!). His older brother, Peanut, is his BFF and snuggle buddy.
Unfortunately, Ollie has been newly diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) and is currently paralyzed from the ribs down. Due to the spinal cord compression, he is also unable to control his bladder function and does have pain (thankfully its currently well controlled in the hospital). Sadly, IVDD is usually a genetic condition in which dachshunds are highly susceptible. Despite a house full of dog ramps and preventing him from jumping off high surfaces, Ollie still developed the condition.
Ollie is currently admitted in the animal hospital and is receiving around the clock care and IV pain medication. Ultimately, Ollie will need spine surgery in order to return to his normal life and continue racing squirrels in our back yard. With surgery, he has a 85-90% chance of a full recovery. Without surgery, he will unlikely be able to walk again and will continue to struggle with urinary incontinence and chronic pain.
Because it is a spinal cord injury, Ollie is going to be having urgent surgery within the next 24 hours. Due to the complexity of the surgery, the cost is estimated to be $7,000-$9,000. Sadly, this does not include any possible complications, follow up visits, physical therapy, and the 90-minute commute each way to the specialty vet hospital.
Any help, whether financial or much needed prayer, is beyond appreciated. We are very hopeful that Ollie will make a full recovery, however, he has a really long road ahead of him. Please keep our sweet Ollie in your prayers and I will continue to update on how he is doing. Thank you to all!
