Lydia's Safety Bracelet
Donation protected
Many of you know this sweet girl, Lydia. She's beautiful, funny, smart, curious and adventurous.
She was born with Childhood Apraxia of Speech, which affects her ability to translate language into spoken words, and she was born missing chromosome # 19 . As she grew she was also diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Very few children will be born with these attributes but because of her high IQ scores she doesn't qualify for the funding from the state that would cover the expenses to meet her unique needs.
You see for Lydia, the combination of these diagnoses and absence of chromosome #19 appears to have affected multiple things but more acutely here, her ability to predict cause and effect. It affects her judgement and sometimes her ability to control her impulses. What makes this such a serious situation is that because Lydia is very able-bodied, her curiosity and adventurous nature leads her away from the family and friends that keep her safe. She has on many occasions slipped away at a moments notice without her family knowing. Most recently, she ventured away while at an evening football game. She left the facility and crossed parking lots where she ended up at her school. She found her way in and after 40 frantic minutes of searching, she was discovered sitting calmly at her desk completing math worksheets. Another recent situation was right in her own neighborhood. Lydia ventured out of her home, down the street and into the home of a neighbor who was away at the time. Lydia's innocent curiosity and impulses brought her there because she enjoys spending time with this neighbor. But imagine the panic when she was no where to be found and couldn't hear the calls of her family and friends because she was inside!
This family has spent large amounts of money on safety features and respite care costs for Lydia. They may have exhausted every safety measure they can, except for one. And thats where YOU come in. There's a safety bracelet designed especially for individuals like Lydia. It allows her parents and caregivers to track her whereabouts and sends alerts if she leaves a defined area. While this device is an answer to many prayers and concerns it also comes with a price. The cost of the device is only part of the equation. Because the device will allow Lydia's family the ability to constantly see where she is via GPS, there's a montly fee attached. Realistically, she will probably continue to need this device as she grows older. Please consider joining me in loving Lydia by donating funds to help cover the cost of this device and the monthly fees associated with it.
