3D Printed Face Shields in NYC for COVID-19

Donation protected
My name is Michael Perina and I run a fabrication shop on Staten Island called Assembyl 3D specializing in 3D printing . Just like many of you, the COVID-19 virus has affected me, my family as well as my work. I read something a couple days ago about a 3D printing company in Italy creating valves during this crisis and I felt I should be doing more to help.

I am also the father of 4 young boys and just last night one of them was admitted to the hospital with irregular breathing. He has now been moved to the ICU with pneumonia, low oxygen and is the first child on Staten Island to be tested for the corona virus. The results will come back by tomorrow night.

Of course I am not allowed to see him and as I sit surrounded by dozens of machines, I feel I need to help in anyway I possibly can... immediately. This is where this fundraiser comes into play.

An amazing company on the other side of the world has created a Face Shield that can be easily made via 3D Printing & Laser cutting for less than $1 a piece in material. Take a look at their blog explaining more.. Prusa Medical Shields

We are not yet at capacity in our hospitals which is great for my son as he is getting the treatment he needs. This may not be the case in the immediate future. Based on current projections, not only will the demand for beds far exceed our current capacity but we will soon find ourselves short on basic supply's and equipment needed to keep our nurses, doctors and medical staff safe from exposure.

Based on some quick Google research, it already seems to be an issue around the country....

With the help of a great local non-profit Makerspace
We are able to produce 200x face-shields per day with the ultimate goal of producing 3,000 face shields to start. With the help from our friends over at Makerspace these face shields will be donated to hospitals throughout NYC as they are needed .

We need to order PLA plastic filament, clear sheets of PETG and the elastic head straps along with supplies for hygiene including gloves and bags.
In the event we raise more than we can possibly produce, all excess funds will either be donated to a cause helping fight the COVID-19 virus or to possibly fund another item we can produce that will help fight this virus.
