Help Melvin Beat Cancer -No One Fights Alone

On May 1st, we learned that our friend Melvin has a very rare form of cancer. It’s a soft tissue cancer that originates in the abdomen called Desmoplastic small round cell tumor. Already at Stage 4, the cancer is aggressive and growing quickly, and is beyond what our oncologist at Memorial Hermann can treat. 

The road ahead will be long and arduous. Our doctors are suggesting, first and foremost, a very uncommon surgery known as HIPEC de-bulking that only a select few surgeons in the area are even capable of performing. After the surgery, there is a chance he will need continued therapy, including chemo and/or radiation.

We are grateful to have some clarity now and are eager to take the steps towards healing. If you know Melvin, you know he’s ready to fight with all he’s got.

Melvin’s not always the type to ask for help, but he has always, always been the type to offer it. He’s the kind of guy who would help you move across the country to chase a dream; he’d cook a hearty meal for you at 3AM if you’re feeling low; and he makes sure the homies are good before ever worrying about himself.

So, if you’ve been graced by his friendship or inspired by his dedication to his family and his craft like I have, then you may be looking for a way to be there for him. 

We’re asking that you please offer him your thoughts and prayers, perhaps lend an ear or share a meal, drink, and a laugh if the moments arise. And if you’re able to contribute monetarily, no amount is too small and all of it will go towards supporting Melvin and his family through the long and winding road ahead.
