9-1-1 Dispatcher Meagan Blare Faces Crisis of Life

Two years ago Meagan Jewel Blare graduated from Winner High School in South Dakota. There you could find her singing the national anthem at sports events, running cross country, cheerleading, doing competitive dance, serving as president of Future Farmers of America, acting in school plays and excelling in the classroom. Outside of school, you’d find Meagan helping her grandma in town, or enjoying the church youth group. At home on the ranch, you could find her helping in the kitchen and garden, or hammering and welding projects out in the shed, showing 4-H cattle, or riding horses to work the cows. Meagan’s high school years were full of activity and life to the fullest.

As one of Rusty and Rita Blare’s eight children, she understands people. She has a gift for positively encouraging her siblings with her cheery “let’s do this” determined grit. The Blare family is close-knit and active on their small ranch 23 miles from town, as well as in church, community and school. Meagan’s joyfully contagious laugh, her waist-length blonde hair, and strong faith in God are endearing trademarks.

These days 20-year-old Meagan helps manage crises at 9-1-1 Dispatch serving five South Dakota counties. She works either day or night shifts, 8-12 hours at a time. Officers, EMT, and firemen returning from crises appreciate her supportive calmness. Though it can be stressful, Meagan loves helping others.

On April 10, 2023, Meagan and her family were thrown into a crisis of their own. Meagan was told she has HLRCC kidney cancer, Stage IV. This cancer is caused by an extremely rare genetic mutation. It is aggressive and incurable. It has spread to her lymph nodes, liver, and bones. In this difficult journey, the family continues to put their trust and hope in God.

Loving life, Meagan and her family would like to explore some further medical options which will be costly. Even now, the expensive monoclonal antibody treatments she is receiving will add up quickly, along with travel expenses for their bi-weekly trips to the Sioux Falls hospital 170 miles away.

I am Joanne Jasper, one of Meagan's many cousins who loves the Blare family like crazy! We, cousins and extended family would like to show our love with financial help for their medical costs as well as with prayers and words of encouragement.
Meagan and her family are extremely grateful for the support of all who are showing their care for them in many ways. If you are so inclined, please share this GoFundMe post on your social media page. Thank you for caring.
