Mommy of Newborn Battling Leukemia
Donation protected
My name is Kelly Cordero and I am starting this gofundme on behalf of my brother Joshua, my sister-in-law Allison, and newborn nephew Judah.
Joshua and Allison were born and raised in Central California where for the last several years they worked as self-employed filmmakers. On May 24th, they relocated to New Zealand to pursue some unique filmmaking opportunities. On top of leaving their family, friends, job security and everything that was familiar to them, Allison was also 5-months pregnant with their first baby - they were definitely on a brave adventure and stepping out in faith.
Joshua and Allison were completing the residence application process, an extensive and expensive process that would enable them to work and live in New Zealand indefinitely. This included a complete physical with blood work and x-rays. The same day they completed their physicals, Allison was contacted by a physician who asked her to come in immediately as her hemoglobin levels were alarmingly low.
Allison was admitted to a hospital in New Zealand and would later be diagnosed with having Acute Myeloid Leukemia while being five months pregnant. Since their residency applications were not complete, they were unable to legally stay in New Zealand for treatment and decided to return to California to pursue treatment and to be close to their family.
Allison would soon discover not only did she have a rare form of leukemia that had affected 97% of the cells her bone marrow produced but her leukemia also had rare genetic mutations found in less than .5% of similar diseases. Joshua and Allison were given the choice of beginning a chemotherapy treatment that would require the termination of the pregnancy or a less aggressive treatment that would be safe for their unborn son, Judah. Wanting to protect the life of their child and ensure Judah would be born safely and healthy, they opted for the less aggressive treatment.
Allison is currently receiving treatment at Stanford Hospital and Clinics where for the past month she has undergone the toughest battle of her life. Due to the unusual scenario of having just relocated (twice), Joshua and Allison do not have any source of income nor a place of residence to call their own. My brother stays with Allison in her hospital room where they endure this fight and journey together, one day at a time.
Please join me in helping my family fight this battle. Whether through your encouraging words, prayers or donations we want to let them know they do not have to experience this fight alone. All funds will go to aid Joshua, Allison and baby Judah with their medical expenses and basic living costs.
We are praying and believing that Allison will be CURED of leukemia. The doctors induced Allison because her cancer was not responding to "normal chemotherpy" and the need was evident to start more aggressive treatment. We have already experienced our first miracle: Judah being born on August 1st! Our little warrior was two months early! He is breathing on his own and weighing in at 41/2 pounds!
I encourage you to “like” their Facebook page (facebook.com/myjourneyofhealing) and/or subscribe to youtube.com/remscape where Joshua posts photos and video to keep everyone informed and updated with their journey. Their amazing faith during this journey will challenge and inspire you as you’ll see their ups and downs, their victories and their failures, their hopes and fears and above all their unshakeable faith that with God all things are possible.
I humbly ask you to consider a gift of any size to help my brother and his family. Please know, no gift is too small or too big, every dollar will make a difference. From the bottom of my heart thank you for participating in this journey of healing. Our entire family greatly appreciates you, your prayers, and generosity.
